Mentoring - The Power of an Hour

The mentoring program is for 2nd through 12th grade students who are intentionally matched with an adult or high school student for one hour a week.

TRAM matches volunteers from the community with school-aged children. A mentor spends one-on-one time with their mentee on a weekly basis. They enjoy doing schoolwork, reading, playing games, sports, and more. We intentionally match mentors with a child that has similar interests so they will enjoy some of the same activities together. Our hope is that these matches will last until the child graduates but we only ask for a one year commitment at a time.

TRAM  employs a site-based mentoring system, in which the mentor will meet with the mentee at their school or at the After-School Program location. These mentors will not have contact with one another outside of the designated time and place.

TRAM is always looking for new mentors. We currently have students in need of mentors. If you would like the opportunity to change a child's life by spending one hour a week with them, please download the application below or contact us at TRAM@Frontier.com.

After-School Program (ASP)

The After-School Program is for students in 2nd through 8th grade and meets after school Monday through Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm.

Our after-school program focuses on helping our students learn more about themselves, and how they can contribute to the world around them.  We utilize focused homework and academic help on a daily basis. Our students learn different types of creative arts and receive character education to help them succeed in their classroom and in the community.

The after-school program provides nutritious snacks and incorporates games, hands-on presenters, and field trips in order to promote overall success through a safe after school environment.

Our after-school program is located on the second floor of the First United Methodist Church at 215 N. Main Street.

If your child is interested in enrolling in our FREE after-school program, please download the application below or contact us at TRAM@Frontier.com .

Job Readiness Program

A ten week course for Middle School students that teaches them different aspects of being a good employee.

[UPDATE: September 2024]

We are excited to announce the pilot of our new job preparedness program. We are currently recruiting high school students and looking for partnering businesses to participate.

TRAM will recruit high school students, teach them how to write resumes, give them interview practice, and connect them with participating employers. Students will be paid by their employers just like any other employee. During employment, TRAM will host regular meetings with the employer and the student to measure progress and offer suggestions for improvement. Once employment is over, TRAM will conduct exit interviews with the students.

If you are a high school student in St. Joseph County and would like to learn basic job skills, how to write a resume, and get interview pointers,  please fill out the application below:
